The Temple Bar

The bar that every tourist in Dublin stops at.  Is it Touristy?  Yes, absolutely.  But, it’s also something that you have to check out if you’re in Dublin.  It’s still a pretty decent bar and they regularly have live bands playing and a fun atmosphere.

 

The Brazen Head

Known as the oldest pub in Dublin, legend says that Robin Hood, himself, used to frequent this very bar.  Today they have a great outdoor seating area and a decently cool indoor pub.  The food is pretty good as well.

A fantastic bar that often has live entertainment.  Check out their website to see what events are on the calendar.  It’s also a great place to celebrate New Year’s Eve as the picture above suggests.

Palace Bar

Victorian-era bar that maintains the same look and feel that it had during its heyday in the late 1800s.  Great place for whiskey and Guinness.

J Grogan’s

Old fashioned pub focused on providing a place for locals to have conversation without competing with TVs and other technology.  It’s the perfect place to grab a pint or a small snack.  From their website: “The pub’s famous toasties made with Irish cheddar cheese and traditional deli ham are available throughout the day and night. If you ask the barmen for a ‘Special’ you’ll be guaranteed that you will not be disappointed.”

Victorian-era pub in a medieval hotel.  This is the perfect place to take in an old fashioned Irish Pub the way it was originally meant to be experienced.

John Kehoe’s Pub

An old stomping ground of James Joyce, this bar was first opened in 1803.  Everything here remains exactly as it did 100 years ago.  From the snug bar to the small grocery full of snuffs, coffee and tea, to the small walled off rooms where groups of friends can sit and talk in private.

Darkey Kelly’s

One of the best known pubs in Dublin for traditional Irish music.  This pub restaurant is named after one of the most famous women in Ireland, Darkey Kelly.  Darkey was burned at the stake for witchcraft in 1761.  While she was undoubtedly innocent of witchcraft, following her execution the authorities found numerous bodies hidden under the brothel that she ran.  It is assumed that she is the first recorded serial killer in Irish history.

Self described as a drinking pub with a music problem, The Cobblestone is one of the best places to experience tradition Irish music.  The pub is ran by the Mulligan family who has been playing traditional Irish music at this location for 5 generations.
