Budapest’s Best Restaurants

Onyx

One of the most unique and special dining experiences we’ve ever had.  Every single part of this experience was special.  From the moment we entered the space at the front of the building and were welcomed with interesting hors-d’oeuvres, opening bottles of champagne with a sword, to the large 20 person table where we watched the food being prepared and even got to enjoy preparing some our selves.  The food was fantastic, the wine was incredible, the atmosphere was exceptional, the experience was second to none.

Stand and Stand25

Stand Restaurant is the fine dining counterpart to Stand25, the casual restaurant from the same local celebrity chef-duo, Szabina Szulló and Tamás Széll.  The food is great at both spots and the service is excellent as well.

Babel Budapest

Babel is Budapest’s premier Michelin-starred restaurant.  Here you’ll find a classic fine dining experience inspired by Transylvania.  They specialize in taking local homestyle food from this chillingly beautiful, mountainous region and reimagining them as fine dining creations.

Both the five and ten-course tasting menus run €90 per person (the longer one comes in smaller portions), or €135 if you opt in for the wine pairing, which comprises Hungarian-only white wines, many from the famous Tokaj region.

Costes and Costes Downtown

Portuguese born chef, Miguel Rocha Vieira, won Budapest’s first ever Michelin Star with his restaurant Costes.  He has since opened a more casual restaurant, Costes Downtown which has since won a Michelin Star of its own.

Mazel Tov

A spacious ruin bar featuring brick floors and crumbling stone walls covered in ivy vines, in the historic Jewish District with quite possibly one of the best atmospheres and most beautiful buildings that serves up some of the best Israeli food you’ll find anywhere.

Rosenstein

An award-winning, family-run hole-in-the-wall, Rosenstein features a hybrid menu of Jewish classics and Hungarian favorites in a casual, but classy setting.

Retro Lángos Budapest and Lángos Land

Lángos is a traditional Hungarian snack.  It consists of deep-fried bread, usually slathered in cream cheese and garlic, bolognese sauce or herbs and salt.  These two take-out spots are the perfect places to obtain this hangover curing delicacy.
