Budapest’s Best Cafes

New York Café

This instagrammer’s paradise is gilded in gold from floor to ceiling.  While it’s a bit more touristy than most of the cafe’s on this list, it’s still well worth a trip.  The atmosphere is unrivaled, the drinks are delicious and their pastries are top notch.  Don’t hesitate to make a reservation as there is often a line out the door.

Cafe Ruszwurm

Budapest’s oldest confectioner is located in Buda Castle, and is the perfect place to stop on any visit to the castle.

Cafe Ruszwurm is  open 9am – 8pm spring through fall and 10am – 7pm in winter.  Don’t leave Buda Castle without stopping at this iconic café.

Espresso Embassy Budapest

Espresso Embassy is the spot to drink espresso for the true coffee connoisseur.  They make a host of specialty espresso drinks and a nice selection of plant based cakes to enjoy with them.

Zoo Cafe

Zoo Café is undoubtedly Budapest’s mosat unique cafe and the perfect place to stop if you are an animal lover.  Featuring 65 exotic small animals ranging from bunny rabbits to snakes, the Dr. Doolittle of your group will have a blast enjkoying their coffee while meeting all their animals.

Make sure to reserve a table a couple of days in advance because Zoo Café can get very packed and busy.  The way the experience works, you order your coffee and then go sit at a table where an animal handler will bring out a new animal every 10-15 minutes.  Maximum stay is 90min for each group.

9BAR

If you are visiting St. Stephen’s Basilica or that general area, make sure to pop into 9BAR.  Here you’ll receive one of the most picturesque lattes in town.   Compared to the noisy Zoo Cafe, this is the perfect spot to cozy up with a cappuccino and a nice book.
