Corniglia

Corniglia is the smallest of the 5 towns and is the only one of the five that does not have a port or any access to the water.  Corniglia is located up on the top of the hills overlooking the coast.  I cannot stress this enough.  DO NOT stay in Corniglia unless you are a backpacker with minimal luggage and want something entirely out of the way of most tourists.  Corniglia was one of our favorite towns to visit for a day, however, the train station drops you off below a series of over 500 steps which you then must drag your luggage up to get to the town if you choose to stay in Corniglia.  The thought of dragging our bags up and then down these steps at check-in and check-out and having to walk down and then up these 500 plus stairs each day to go visit the other towns would just be a miserable experience in our humble opinion.  If that sounds like fun to you, by all means book your stay in Corniglia.  It’s gorgeous and by far the most secluded and least touristy.  But, just realize what’s in store in regards to all the stairs you’ll be walking each day.

Best places to Eat & Drink in Corniglia

– Il Pirun: a small enoteca serving local pasta and fresh seafood.

– Osteria A Cantina De Mananan: Cozy and authentic.  Try their frutti di mare or their walnut ravioli and make sure to try their panna cotta paired with their sweet sciacchetra wine for dessert.
