Mykonos

Mykonos is simultaneously one the prettiest islands in the Cyclades and for lack of a better word one of the douchiest.  It’s the party capital of the Greek Islands.  Which, for some people, particularly the younger crowd and the insanely rich, is exactly what they are looking to indulge in.  For us, we’re much more interested in rustic authenticity and the quaint natural beauty found elsewhere in the Greek Isles.  Conversely, we are much less interested in $300 bottles of wine, DJs playing techno music on the beaches and throwing insane amounts of money around for the hell of it.  If you enjoy going to clubs and getting bottle service, then Mykonos is a must stop for you.  If you’re not, it is still absolutely worth a night of your trip, but do not build your trip around it.

The first thing you’ll want to do when you get to Mykonos is head to the beautiful old windmills (Kato Myli) that line the hills above Mykonos’ main town of Chora and the must see Little Venice which runs along the water.  We got some of our best photos up on this hill with the windmills.

Just beware…it is super windy up there…

After your photoshoot atop the hill head down the stairs towards the main town and go grab a drink or lunch at Mykonos’ quintessential Little Venice.

Mykonos’ main town (Chora) is a maze of dozens of narrow cobblestoned walkways winding their way through shops and restaurants.  Don’t leave Mykonos without spending an afternoon grabbing drinks and window shopping along these adorable streets, particularly Matoyianni Street which is lined with fantastically unique stores.

Take in the sites along the stunning coastal and port areas

That evening make sure to grab a reservation at one of Mykonos’ most famous restaurants, M-Eating.  The food is Greek tapas style and is Michelin star quality.  Check them out at http://www.m-eating.gr/en/ … Make sure to book a reservation well in advance.  For Mykonos this restaurant is well priced and the food is outstanding.

If you’re looking for the hottest clubs in Mykonos, I’m sorry to disappoint.  That simply isn’t our scene and we didn’t search those places out so you’ll have to go elsewhere for those recommendations.  There’s no lack of bumping party spots though once the sun goes down that’s for sure.
